When James Murdoch media mogul and Sky team sponsor flew in specially for last weekend's Paris Roubaix it was rumoured to be the result of an inside tip from sky team boss Dave Brailsford that "something special " was set to happen on the classic roads of the "Hell of the North".
Whist Fabian Cancellara was busy ripping up the senior event with a demonstration of raw power riding it was in the earlier "Future stars" event that Planet X rider Sam Harrison was awarded the ‘best rider on the cobbles’ award after riding to seventh overall for the nation. A 40k solo breakaway was sufficient for Brailsford and Murdoch to issue in race instruction to the welsh wonderboy, Brailsford himself from the valleys was reported to have shouted from the team car to his protégé "slow down boyo you'll pop your cork".
In a post-race war of words, Harrison was stung to respond, and respond he did with the Planet X war cry "It's better to lose like a lion than win like a champion".
Meanwhile in his post race interview Cancellara was rumoured to pay his respects for the heroic riding of the rising star but finished off with a cutting "What a daft Welsh nobjockey".
In what was later to develop into a post-race war of words, Harrison was stung to respond, and respond he did with the Planet X war cry "It's better to lose like a lion than win like a champion" - what does Cancellara know - I'd swap my 40 mile suicidal lone breakaway in the junior Paris Roubaix for both of that big fat Swiss bloke's wins in the Flanders and Roubaix any day.
