There's a new kid on the block at Planet X. And he's riding a type of bike that is new to the world of Planet X.
The kid is Nial Oxley. The bike is a prototype Planet X downhill mountain bike. We bet you thought we'd be happy with just having the Planet X Dirty Harry for a while yet eh? Not us. We're diving straight into the deep end of DH.
We'll not go on too much about the bike (as it's a bit of a hush-hush work-in-progress type of thing).
Despite only being out of short trousers a couple of years, Nial is very experienced at the downhill race scene. He's seen a couple of podium spots in the last year or so. He's aiming to step it up a gear this year. And Planet X are here to give him that boost.
It's Nial's first race on the Planet X downhill bike this weekend at the first round of the Halo British Downhill Series down (way down) in Combe Syndenham near Taunton.
We asked Nial for a few words about his hopes, fears and excitement about the forthcoming race weekend...
"Getting ready for the 1st round of the British Downhill Series, which is at Combe Sydenham in Somerset. There will be plenty of the UK's top World Cup riders there and the atmosphere is always buzzing. I'm still getting used to my new Planet X DH bike and getting the suspension set up. This will be the first time I've raced it. I'm sure the bike will be sick and I will have a good weekend. Not sure what to expect from results but hopefully I should do quite well for a 1st year Youth (14-16). The forecast is for showers and I'm taking all my tyres and waterproofs!"
GO ON NIAL LAD!
