Ryan Mullen (Planet X) blew the field to bits at the National 25miles time trial this Saturday, aboard his Planet X Exocet2, retaining his National title.
Posting a time of just 48min 48secs for the Junior record on the 25 mile course, Ryan's time as a Junior compares amazingly to Mens winner Michael Hutchinson, who posted a winning 47-01.
Ryan's had an incredible season aboard his stock Exocet2 model, and we're excited to see what performances he can put in as he moves up from the Junior class at the end of this year.
Read more about Ryan's performance over on Cycling Weekly.
Below is his Dad's race report on the event. Well done Ryan!
Yarm near Stockton-on- Tees was the venue for this years "blue ribbon" National 25 TT championships. Juniors from as far away as the Island of Guernsey travelled across sea to compete in this prestigious event.
Ryan as per usual was off scratch and didn't dissapoint!! At the halfway point Ryan was at the 12.5 mile stage in a blistering 22.25 minutes touching speeds of 48mph on the busy dual carriageway.
The average speed was just over 30 mph and averaging over 400 watts of power for the whole event!!! Second in line at the half way point was Alex Peters from Mosquito bikes in 23.07 and third in line was Scott Davies (Spokes RT) in 23.15. Mullen with a lead time of just 42 seconds on Peters stormed up to and passed the bedazzled Peters in the next 6 miles and ended up putting another 2 minutes and twenty seconds into him and some 2 and a half minutes into Davies.
In the rain and windy conditions Mullen managed to pull of the competition record from the hands of T. Yeatman of Glendene-Biketrax CC in 2009 who did the time of 50:04 seconds. Ryan smashed this by 1 minute and 16 seconds!!!
Ryan was presented with the winners medal and cap by ex prefessional cyclist and Olympian Paul Curran. Interesting enough Ryan would have come 4th in the senior event with "Hutch" beating Dowsett by a handful of seconds. Ryan was a minute or so off the mark from winning the senior event!!!
Next weekend Ryan will be attempting to take the competition 10 TT record off Alex Dowsett Team Sky who did a 19:13 in 2006 as a Junior. Ryan holds the scholboy record of 19:14 from 2010.
